You recently received a letter from your cousin asking about whether she should study business management or music in university.
Write a letter to her to offer suggestion. In your letter
1. explain how you felt when you received her letter
2. explain the benefits of both subjects
3. give your suggestion
Dear Maria,
It was great to hear from you again. I heard on the grapevine that you’ve been doing really well at school and I’m so happy to see that you’re planning to study at university. With either field of study, business management or music, a degree should give you the opportunity for a bright and prosperous future.
As you know, I was a business major in college, and I think that one of the main advantages of this option is that you will be employable as soon as you complete your degree. I didn’t exactly graduate with honors but I was able to find my first job easily. I don’t think there is as much demand for music graduates, but you’re such a talented violinist that I’m sure an exciting future will await if you end up studying music.
Have you thought about combining the two areas? Is there such a thing as a business management degree which focuses on the music industry? That would give you the chance to pursue both areas a bit longer, while you try to figure out where your future lies. Perhaps we could have a chat about it over the holidays?
Best wishes,
Mark
