The steps taken when recycling glass bottles are illustrated in the diagram above. These steps are further sorted into three different stages.
Collection of the glass bottles to be recycled is the main step in the first stage. From the picture we can see that a collection point is where disposed glass products are collected. Trucks come and transport the collection to a cleaning plant which is the start of the second stage of recycling.
The second stage starts with the cleaning of the glass bottles by applying high-pressure water in the process. After a thorough cleaning, the bottles are sorted depending on the type of glass they are made of - brown, green, or clear glass. The next step is taking the sorted bottles to a recycling plant where they are melted down in a furnace. After the burning, recycled glass turns into liquid glass which is then proportionately mixed with new liquid glass for the step of molding.
The final and third stage is where these new bottles are reused in customer supermarkets.
