In 2004, 70% of the water in Australia was consumed by households. The bulk of this was utilized by people living in houses (57%), followed by those residing in apartments (13%). Industry and business were the next two sectors that used water with 11% and 10%, respectively. Government units consumed only 6% of all water in Australia, while the remaining 3% was used by other sectors of society.
