The table presents data on the 2005 employment rates of university graduates of selected cities in the USA.

Overall, more than half of all university graduates in the given cities found employment, with the highest rate being graduates from New York. Nearly all the graduates had permanent jobs, except graduates from Chicago, and very few opted to work overseas.

University graduates from New York had the highest employment rate at 66%. The majority of them were permanently employed (55%), while the rest had temporary jobs (8.70%) or worked overseas (2.30%). Close behind, graduates from Chicago’s universities had the second highest rate at 62.80%. Unlike New York, however, most of Chicago’s graduates were temporarily employed (36.30%), and just 24.20% had permanent positions. Similar to New York, only 2.30% worked outside the US.

The employment rate for graduates from two of California’s biggest cities, Los Angeles and San Francisco, had the same rate of 53%. The graduates from Los Angeles were mainly employed permanently (45.80%), whereas 5% opted to work abroad, the highest among graduates of the four cities. Just 2.20% of graduates from Los Angeles had temporary jobs. Lastly, San Francisco’s university graduates also opted for permanent work (34.40%), while nearly half found themselves in temporary positions (16.10%). Few of San Francisco’s graduates sought opportunities in other countries (2.50%).
