You have seen an advertisement from a couple, who live in Australia, for someone to teach their two children your language for a year.
Write a letter to the couple. In your letter
• explain why you think you would be suitable for the job
• say what else you could do for the family
• give your reasons for wanting the job
Dear Mr. and Mrs. Irwin,
I am Jason Chan, a university student in China. I have recently seen your online post about seeking a Mandarin tutor for your children. Hence, I write to offer my services.
As a native of China, I am fluent in Mandarin. Although I am not an education major, I have had experience teaching Mandarin face-to-face to foreigners in my city, both young and old. I have also taught a few students online. Therefore, I have the skills and pleasing personality needed to teach your children Mandarin online. Moreover, scheduling will not be an issue since our time zones are not too far apart.
Aside from Mandarin, as a math major, I can also tutor them in mathematics if you have the need. I currently tutor an upper elementary student in algebra and a lower elementary student in multiplication and division.
Though university life is demanding, tutoring others helps me learn more about life while earning on the side. Teaching your children will allow me to discover more about the Australian culture, which may be useful to me soon since I am contemplating further studies outside China. So I believe this will be a win-win situation for all of us.
I hope to hear from you soon about a possible offer.
Sincerely yours,
Jason Chan
