From the maps we can see that various changes occurred in the town of Willington in 1780, 1860, and the year 2000.
Overall, the town of Willington dramatically increased its residential and educational facilities, roads were also built to facilitate transportation. Conversely, the number of wooded areas were replaced over time.
In the first map dated 1780, Willington, covered by mostly woodlands and agricultural land, had a river ran along the west side of the town and only 100 homes in the northeast.
In 1860, Willington’s residential area doubled in size to 200 homes which were connected by a newly built road to a new bridge over the river. Additionally, some farms and woodlands were removed to accommodate these changes.
By the year 2000, Willington’s homes had increased again by 300. Shops had been erected by the side of the river and another road had been built to join the homes to two newly built schools and sports fields in the southeast of the town. By this time, all the farms and woodlands around the Willington town had been removed. Meanwhile, a wetland at the southern end of the river had been created as an optional habitat for birds.
