The line graph depicts the proportion of homes in the US that had certain types of equipment between 1995 and 1999.
Overall, as the years went by, the percentage of households that owned each kind of technology increased, with most homes possessing a washing machine.
As presented, the percentage of four of the five items rose throughout the given period. Sixty percent of the surveyed households had a washing machine in 1995, and this increased steadily until 80% of all homes had at least one of these appliances in 1999. The next three types of technology, namely the phone (75%), computer (70%), and internet (50%), also became more prevalent in American households by 1999, with the phone having the highest percentage jump as less than 20% of homes had a phone in 1995.
Although many homes in the US also came to own a DVD player, the trend for owning one was not always positive. In 1995, roughly 25% of American homes had this gadget, but this dropped to just 15% one year later. Nonetheless, more and more households began purchasing DVD players until 40% of them had this device in 1999.
