The bar graph illustrates the percentages of four waste materials that a town recycled in 2000, 2005, and 2010.
Overall, the town’s effort to recycle the selected materials greatly improved over the years, with metal objects and cans being the two waste products mostly recycled at the end of the period.
As presented, in the year 2000, the recycling efforts of the town were minimal for all four waste materials, as less than 15% of each type was recycled. But after five years, the town’s efforts improved in three categories. The most noticeable improvement was the recycling of metal products, jumping from roughly 12% in 2000 to nearly 30% in 2005. Next came paper (around 18%) and plastic waste (about 12%). However, the recycling efforts for cans dipped to just 11% in 2005.
Nonetheless, in 2010, the town made great strides environmentally as the percentage of recycled materials improved tremendously. The recycling of metal still led the way at 40%, but the biggest change was in the recycling of cans at approximately 35%, a twofold increase. The recycling percentages of paper (nearly 28%) and plastic objects (roughly 25%) also went up.
