Overall, many developments have occurred to the library’s first floor, making it more conducive for study and leisurely reading.
In 1998, the first floor contained many items students would need, such as reference books, maps, a computer area, and a photocopier to replicate notes or references. A small book display was at the library's center, possibly showing the newest arrivals or recommended readings. This is also where the tables and chairs were located so that students could sit and peruse reference materials and their class notes. The librarian’s desk was nearby for assistance.
Currently, the library's ground floor has been revamped, making the place less cramped than before. Gone are the reference books, computer consoles, and photocopier machines; instead, new books can be seen to the left of the entrance, while there is a study room to the right. The librarian’s desk has also been replaced by a self-service desk, where visitors access what they need via computer. A prominent sight in the middle of the first floor is a much larger book display, perhaps to entice more students to read. There is also a coffee table at the back and a sitting area to the left, giving the library a more relaxing ambiance.
