The graph displays the percentages of Japanese children per age group in 2018 that enjoyed selected activities.
Overall, among the given activities, most Japanese children regularly watched TV programs in 2018. Playing games on the computer, however, was not something most of them were into, especially the adolescents.
A high percentage of all age groups reported they watched TV programs. More than 90% of the younger children (ages 5 to 8) watched TV shows, while 80% of the older children (ages 9 to 11) and adolescents (ages 12 to 16) also did this. Reading was also something the surveyed children liked doing during their leisure time. Seventy percent of older children and adolescents read in their spare time, whereas nearly 65% of the younger children did the same.
The remaining two leisure activities had mixed results. Although more than 60% of the three groups also rode their bicycles, bike riding was favored more by adolescents (slightly above 80%) than the younger (about 65%) and older children (around 63%). Surprisingly, computer games registered the lowest results among all respondents in 2018, with 60% of younger children interested in such. However, the older the age range was, the lower the participation, as approximately 52% of older children were into this activity, while just 40% of the adolescents said they played computer games.
